Veterans Park Handball Courts Celebrate Anniversary
In 1997 Green Township, the State of Ohio and the Greater Cincinnati Hanball Association joined forces to build regulationthree wall handball courts at Veterans Park. The land was provided by Green Township and funding was accomplished through a matching funds grant from the State and contributions from the GCHA. The courts were dedicated in May of 1998 and have been maintained and improved over the years.
The courts are enjoyed regularly by handball and racquetball players. The courts are named in memory of a prominent local player, Bob Caples. An annual handball tornament is held each summer drawing players from many states including Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Florida, Missouri, Oklahoma and New York.
Coaching and mentored play are available free on Saturday mornings at 9 AM in May and are open to all ages and skill levels. Gloves, balls and eye guards are provided at no cost so just show up and play.
Wanted to convey a few thoughts to ponder before next meeting.
1) Mike Dau clinic: should have more events along this line, should be free, maybe offer shirts and or equiment at a price.
2) Still think Gcha should support a tournament team somehow.Have a group of players that represent Gcha that would travel to different handball tourneys and promote our up and coming tournaments.
3) Prize money/corporate sponsers.
4) Ladies night:wives,significate other,outting every other month.
5) pro Handball website
6) raft trip: if any interest among members,I’ll cordinate
Thanks,
Greg
