Dave Smile Surgery

Paul Baker sent this out to give an update on Dave Smile’s situation. In case you haven’t heard, Dave went to work Monday afternoon (Memorial Day) in the emergency room at Mercy South (Fairfield, Ohio). He was feeling sharp abdominal pains around 2:00PM. By 6:00PM he was nauseous, about to pass out, and in extreme pain. An immediate MRI was done and indicated a perforated lower bowel.

Dave went in for emergency surgery Monday night and they removed 60% of his lower bowel. I visited with Dave on Tuesday afternoon and he was still in quite a bit of pain, was loaded with antibiotics, had a tube down his nose to his stomach, had a catheter, and was pretty drowsy from the morphine.

However, I just got off the phone with him (Thursday AM) and he’s feeling a little better today. They removed the tube this morning. He got up, shaved and brushed his teeth and is just waiting to have his first bowel movement (OUCH!). I asked if they had removed the morphine tube yet, he’s going to need it.

Dave is probably going to be in the hospital for another 3 to 5 days. Please say a prayer for a quick and healthy recovery. Although Dave is using all his energy right now to fight bacteria and recover from this trauma, he is answering his cell phone.
